How’s Your Religion?

November-7-2021

Book: Romans

Bible passage: Romans 8:14-17

How are you doing?  What’s up?  Often we answer those questions with lies, especially at church.  But what about when someone asks you “How is your Religion?”  That may not be the question people ask.  It may be more in the form of “How is church?” “How’s the family?” or “How is life?”  If we answer with Religion then, where is the relationship?

Religion = a set of rules

How is your relationship is a better question to ask?  To answer this you have to look within.

Romans 8:14-17

  1. We are His. (Romans 8:14-15)
  2. The endgame. (Romans 8:16-17)

To be in Christ is to be in the Spirit.  To change our lives we must walk in the Spirit.  We don’t always feel like we can overcome sin in our lives, but because of the Spirit within we can.  Galatians 5:25.  The Holy Spirit is with us in our greatest struggles in life.

If we have accepted Christ as our Savior, the Holy Spirit is within us.  Thus, we are God’s children and this should mean something to us.

If the Spirit is in us, then the weight of sin cannot keep us or enslave us.  Fear can’t bind us because we have an Advocate.  John 14:15-17.

He is the Father; we are His children.

The endgame of having the Holy Spirit within us is that we are heirs of God, co-heirs with Jesus.  This should be life-changing.  Because of the present sin in our flesh we need God’s Spirit within.  The Spirit of God within us is proof of the relationship above.

What are we heirs of? Eternal life. John 3:16

John 14:25-27. Life is rough but the Holy Spirit within overcomes the issues without.  You are not alone.

Romans 8:11. The Holy Spirit within you is greater than the religion around you.

Does your relationship with Christ matter?
