week 4 of the sermon series: “The Effective Life”

Bible passage: 2 Peter 1:5

2 Peter 1:5

When Peter spoke of knowledge, he was telling us to follow in his own footsteps and be a disciple of Jesus.  This involves 3 steps.

  1. I will Follow You -a personal step. Colossians 2;3MATTHEW 4:18-20Matthew 11:28-30
    • Adding knowledge begins when you leave the shoreline of your own purposes and become a disciple of the Savior.
  2. I will Study You -a thoughtful step. Ezra 7:102 Peter 3:1-21 Peter 2:2
    • It’s not possible to add knowledge to your goodness if you neglect to study Scripture.
  3. I will Obey You -a behavioral step. Galatians 5:22-23
    • You simply cannot acquire the knowledge of God without changing your personality, your behavior, your values, and your habits in life.

TRUTH: The essence of discipleship: Following, Studying, and Obeying Jesus.
