Series: Question Everything. Week 2: Is Something Wrong with Me? Psalm 32

Is something wrong with me? And, if so, is that what keeps me from being happy?

Psalm 32:1. There is, in fact, something wrong with you … & in order to be happy you have to deal with it…

Psalm 32:3-4. That feeling of nakedness is ingrained in our souls, & it goes back to our relationship with God.

NOTE: Not all shame is legitimate.

Not all guilt is bad.

Before you can clean up what is tore up, you have to come face to face what is broken.

Psalm 32:5

  1. To find happiness, you must be honest about your sin.

In order for God to cover their sin, they first had to uncover it.

  1. To find happiness, you must own your sin.

God’s forgiveness begins where blame-shifting ends.

  1. To find happiness, you must learn to hate your sin & not just its consequences.

Many confess their sin & turn from it because THE CONSEQUENCE gets painful.

Psalm 32:9

Many avoid sin because they are afraid of what others might think about them if they got caught.

When your heart attitude toward the sin itself hasn’t changed, then you haven’t really confessed.

  1. To find happiness, you must actually change direction. Psalm 32:10-11.

Where there is no change, there has been no confession.

Proverbs 24:16. Confession is not perfection, it is a new direction.

  1. To find happiness, you must hide in God. Psalm 32:6–7.

A warning & a test:

Psalm 32:6.

Warning: Seek God while He can be found.

Test: After you find the happiness of forgiveness, you feel love for God & compassion toward others. Psalm 32:11.

When we think too lightly of sin, we think too lightly of the Savior.

Psalm 32:10. The steadfast love of God for you produces steadfast love for God in you.

Do others feel safe in their weakness around you?

God’s mercy is your hiding place!
