THE VOWS
Vow #1: PRIORITY: I promise God will be my 1 & my spouse will be my 2.
Vow #2: PURSUIT: I promise I will always pursue my 2.
Vow #3: I promise our marriage will be about “we” and not “me.”
How many of you that are Married or Hope to be married one day plan on Committing adultery one day? How many of you plan on becoming Addicted to porn? How many of you plan on having Emotional affair by giving your heart to somebody?
Almost no one plans to wreck a marriage with sin—But it happens All the time!
TRUTH: It is Difficult to build a Life of Righteousness on a Foundation of Sin.
Genesis 2:24-25. Hebrew for shame: buwsh (boosh); to be ashamed; to feel completely worthless.
Genesis 3:7-10
Do something wrong—Feel shame— What does shame do? Shame is Satan’s tool of connecting the act to the identity. Satan connects the act to the identity. You did something bad, so therefore you are bad.
We begin to believe the only way to be safe is to hide. Keep it a secret. Instead of bringing the intimacy of truth, we live in secrecy in marriage. Can’t let him know, can’t let her know my secret battles.
TRUTH: SECRECY IS THE ENEMY OF INTIMACY.
Ephesians 5:8-14. (*) Eyes adjust—pain
Never find healing in the dark. Shame grows best in the dark. Ephesians 5:3
What is impurity—poison! Stay away from it!
The line is in the wrong place!
Matthew 5:27-28
The line of sin is in the wrong place! Physical, emotional, mind.
Jesus was extreme! Right eye causes you to sin—Gouge it out!
HOW CAN WE STAY PURE?
Psalm 119:9-11 (David)
Seek God. Passionately pleasing God! Have to be pure—you have to Want to be pure!
Develop an appetite for God & God’s Word.
Secrecy is the enemy of intimacy!
Proverbs 28:13
Confess—Receive with Grace
Children of light—No longer live in darkness!
How can I stay pure? Living according to Your word!
