Series: Question Everything Week 3: Will Life Ever Get Better? Psalm 88-89
Will life ever get better? PSALM 88:1-18.
Psalm 88:15 summarizes his feeling: Despair—Not only am I in pain now, I‘m not sure it will ever get better. Then he ends the Psalm, & we are left saying, “What?”
But then… PSALM 89:1, 8-12, 21-23, 25-26, 34
How are these two Psalms placed side by side?
The book of Psalms is written, in part, to present you with the enigma of the Christian life.
Here’s what Psalm 89 assures you:
- God’s love rules over everything in your life.
- God’s love isn’t always immediately apparent to us (Psalm 89:46).
- God’s love shapes the glorious conclusion of His plan
- We see God’s love for us in the rejection of His Anointed One (Psalm 89:38-45).
Isaiah 53:4-5 … Jesus was rejected in our place, so that we would never have to be.
- During pain, we experience God’s love in His presence with us (Psalm 89:15).
Psalm 3:3, Colossians 1:27, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Romans 8:28, Romans 8:26. When I cannot grasp His plan, I cling to His presence.
- During pain, we are right to pray for the inbreaking of God’s love.
What do you do when you feel like life will never get better?
(1) PRAY Psalm 88 to God
(2)PREACH Psalm 89 to yourself
- I choose not to fear; God is with me.
- I choose not to doubt; God is in control.
- I choose not to despair; God is good.
