Series: Chosen to Be Set Apart: Real Life Holiness
Week 1: Chosen to Be Set Apart
HOLINESS BEGINS WITH IDENTITY, NOT BEHAVIOR.
1 Peter 1:1–12
- Exiles by Location, Elect by Identity (1 Peter 1:1–2)
- “Chosen… sanctified… sprinkled” — identity rooted in the Trinity.
Holiness starts with who God says you are.
- A Living Hope in a Dying World (1 Peter 1:3–5)
- This assurance (Hope) is given in a 3-fold way:
- The inheritance is “kept” (or reserved) in heaven for the Christian.
- The Christian is constantly guarded “shielded” here & now until the entering heaven.
- The Christian is assured that he will be present at the great unveiling (“revealing”) when all the glories of salvation will be disclosed.
Holiness is fueled by hope, not fear.
- Trials Refine; Not Define (1 Peter 1:6–7)
- Suffering is temporary but purposeful.
- Faith is refined like gold — holiness grows in hardship.
Holiness is forged in the fire of tested faith.
- Joy in the Unseen Christ (1 Peter 1:8–12)
- A holy life is a relationship that flows from loving Christ.
- Christ-followers are to treasure what God has done for them & live in response to it.
Holiness is rooted in worship, not willpower.
Application:
- Declare your identity daily: “I am chosen, set apart, & secure.”
- Shift your hope from circumstances to Christ.
- See trials as refining tools, not punishments.
- Worship intentionally — holiness grows where worship flows.
