Series: He Took My Place Week 3: Accused for Me
Matthew 26:57-68, 27:1-26
6 Injustices of Jesus’ Trial:
1) The timing was unjust.
2) The ‘due process’ experience was unjust.
3) Their use of witnesses was unjust.
4) The conviction process was unjust.
5) The sentencing was unjust.
6) Pilate’s final consent was unjust.
The whole trial process was unjust. Why?
- God was demonstrating to us that Jesus’s death was not brought about by his own sin;
- Jesus, in His trial, identified with every one of us who has ever had to suffer injustice.
4 Kinds of People Exposed by this Trial:
1) The Sanhedrin: “the threatened.” (Matthew 27:18).
If self is on the throne, Jesus must be on the cross;
If Jesus is on the throne, self must be on the cross.
2) Pilate: “the distracted.” (Matthew 27:22).
3) Barabbas: “the spared” (Matthew 27:20-21).
4) Judas: “the despairing” (Matthew 27:3-5).
Jesus never ever gives up on you—His grace to forgive is greater than you could ever imagine, and His power to restore the life that is ruined by sin is beyond your wildest hopes.
