Series: Stressed Week 6: Decisions, Decisions
HOW DO I FIND GOD’S PEACE in MY DECISION-MAKING?
All decisions have consequences; unwise decisions have negative consequences. Wisdom helps us make wise decisions—which is a great way to eliminate stress & experience God’s peace.
#1: We make wise decisions by Seeking Wise Counsel.
The Bible is the foundation for the life of a Jesus follower. PROVERBS 6:20-23.
ISAIAH 55:10-11. God’s Word sometimes works like rain & sometimes like snow. Ultimately, they accomplish the same thing—they water the earth—but they do it differently. Rain gets everything wet right away. Snow can take time before it melts & saturates the soil.
You won’t receive all the benefits you could receive from Scripture if you simply read it or hear it without choosing to apply it. JAMES 1:22-25.
So, what’s in it for me? PROVERBS 6:22-23.
1) When we saturate ourselves in God’s Word, He will show us the right way to go in life. Psalm 119:105. One of the main rewards we receive when we saturate ourselves in God’s Word is that it helps us see the right path forward.
2) Proverbs 6:23b. Scripture will correct us when we start going the wrong way.
#2 If we want to make wise decisions, we need to invite godly people to speak truth into our decision-making.
Proverbs 12:15: (1) My input is never enough because I don’t know everything. (2) My perspective is always limited because I can’t see everything. (3) My flesh is always deceitful because my own heart will lie to me about anything.
3 ways we can seek godly counsel from others as a key ingredient in making wise decisions:
- ESTABLISH RELATIONSHIPS WITH GODLY PEOPLE. Proverbs 13:20. The people you invite into your life will either lead you toward wisdom or lead you toward foolishness. Your relational choices establish the environment from which my decisions are made.
- LEAN ON THOSE RELATIONSHIPS for INPUT. Don’t make decisions on an island. Proverbs 19:20
- CHOOSE TO BE TEACHABLE.
PROVERBS 12:15a. Fools believe themselves to be right most of the time.
PROVERBS 12:15b. It says the wise person listens to counsel.
PROVERBS 12:1. People who refuse to listen to instruction or correction are dumb as an ox.
