Series: GOD is for You  Week 5: The Certainty of No Separation

The end of Romans is punctuated by 7 questions. Romans 8:31-39. Paul is moving from information to application so we can experience transformation: Romans 8:31a.

2 answers come to mind in response to: Romans 8:31a. (1) I can’t say anything. Or (2) I must say everything.

If you are truly saved, your salvation is totally secure!

7 reasons why we should explode in worship:

  1. Jesus protects us. Romans 8:31b:
  2. Jesus provides for us. Romans 8:32.
  3. Jesus purifies us. Romans 8:33.
  4. Jesus prays for us. Romans 8:34
  5. Jesus preserves us. Romans 8:35a.

Paul lists 7 troubles which have no power to separate us from the love of Christ in answer to this question.

    • Trouble (tribulation) means, “to break or be squeezed” because of outward pressures.
    • Hardship (Distress) is literally, “a narrow place.” It’s what happens inwardly when we feel surrounded. The rollercoaster of experiences & emotions can’t cut us off from God’s love.
    • -Persecution refers to suffering because of your faith.
    • Famine is a severe want of food.
    • Nakedness the need for clothes or shelter & the embarrassment of being exposed.
    • Danger is the idea of living in imminent & incessant peril.
    • Sword refers to the “slaughter-knife” & represents death.

Paul Psalm 44:23 as a reminder of what to expect because God’s people have always experienced opposition: Romans 8:36

  1. Jesus prepares us. Romans 8:37.

The key is to think less about the power of things over you & more about the power of Christ within you.

  1. Jesus promises us. Romans 8:38-39.

Paul lists extremes which will never ever be able to separate us from the love of God.

    • Extremes of existence: “Neither death nor life.”
    • Extremes of spiritual forces: “Nor angels nor demons.”
    • Extremes of time: “Nor the present nor the future.”
    • Extremes of enemies: “Nor any powers.”
    • Extremes of space: “Neither height nor depth.”
    • Extremes of creation: “Nor anything else in all creation.”

Romans 8 begins with “no condemnation” and ends with “no separation.” These promises will never be reversed or revoked.

If you are truly saved, your salvation is totally secure!

God’s purpose is unchangeable, His power is unchallengeable, & His love is unconditional, so there is nothing I have to fear. The Who of my salvation is greater than the who of my opposition and I am more than a conqueror.
