You should stop thinking of God only as someone you fear, but as someone you can love. This should settle what you believe about the character of God forever. God keeps His promises. God can be trusted with your heart, you soul, & your strength. He is not giving you Canaan because you deserve it, or because of who you are, but because He is God.

The essence of who we are & the direction of our lives flows out of our hearts, which means everything about us can be affected by what we allow to touch our hearts. Whatever influences us internally will impact the core of who we are, & the direction of our lives—good or bad.
